I have achieved more than expected, by getting my assignments done as quick as possible, getting a result higher than expected. I am training hard on each assignment.

In April 2006 I was diagnosed with lung cancer after several months of doctor and hospital visits complaining of back pain.Needless to say I was devastated especially as I had been complaining about mt back. After yet more scans and x-rays they found some abnormality on my spine. They got me into hospital in late May of that year where they removed my left lung (for the tumor there) and did a biopsy on my spine. It transpired that the cancer had spread to my spine (hence the back pain) but unfortunately they can't operate for fear of leaving me paralised. This was just totally bewildering and obviously very worrying,I just wanted to crawl away into a corner and give up.
This is when I chanced upon an advert for Skillstrain and thought "what the heck" I'll have a look at it.I have always been active all my life and when the doctors told me I would not be able to continue in my employment (refrigeration) I thought I could turn my attention to other things.Hence I enrolled with Skillstrain, finding it extremely hard to begin with. After all at 60+ it's been a long time since my school learning days.
With help from my wife (especially) and a few close friends I stuck at it not wanting to let them down, much less myself.I had very little knowledge about computers and even less on how they work.As I say it was tough going at first but it is all falling into place now,I am understanding more and more each day. With a lot of dedication I have amazed myself with the marks I have been achieving with 100% on a regular basis.
It has been a great strain for myself and family over the last couple of years but with the help of this course I feel I can achieve almost anything.I hadn't really thought about taking the exam at the end of the course, but that is now a real possibility. If other students are finding it hard work,I hope they read this and take heart.Remember-"NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE" some things just take a little longer.Thankyou Skillstrain for giving me a second chance.

After having a motorcycle accident in April '06 I am unlikely to be able to resume my old job as a storeman. So in November I started with Skilstrain to try to retrain for an IT job. I started on the A+2003 syllabus and did the first 5 assignments (scoring average 92%) but then switched to the 2006 syllabus. After a slow period over christmas I have picked up the pace and done the first 10 assignments on the new syllabus (average 100%). I am enjoying the course immensely and learning new stuff everyday about the same computers I've been using for ages (but not able to maintain properly until now).

For a few years I had be toying with the idea of studying for formal IT qualifications but kept putting it off. Finally I took the plunge and booked the A+, N+ and MCSE course. Having owned a computer from the early days of ZX81's and Spectrums, I have always had an interest in how they work and thougt I had a good understanding of them.

Little did I know just how much more involved PC's can be and what needs to be learnt in order to do my chosen career path. Although I am only part way in to the course, I find I have already learnt a lot more than what I expected. In order that I didn't mess up my computer trying the different things I was learning, I decided to buy a job lot of used pc's and spares from Ebay.

With over 600 different parts available I am now able to learn what each component does, the different types and how to test with hands on experience. This has only been possible by having the spares to use. I would strongly recommend to anyone, that if they can, do what I have done and buy yourself some spares to practice on. Like me, you will then be able to achieve more in your training and gain a lot more from the excellent training provided by Skillstrain.

I have had previous experience in IT as I have studied the basic at a Sixth form college, The A+ course has enabled me to look at the componenets and technology in depth to gain and intensive knowledge. I can now resolve problems that can be basic and that are quite difficult to resolve if I didn't have the experince. I submitt the assignments, which I find very calming, because I am not working under pressure. Hopefully before the end of June 2007 I will like to complete this and move on to the N+ part of the course.

Before I started this course I was a mere GNU/Linux and OpenBSD programmer as a hopbby and knew the very minimal about hardware. Now, just weeks after starting the A+ course I have friends and family and even people I barely know bringing their computers in to me and asking me to go around to perform maintenance, install hardware and help configure their computer systems. I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and feel this course is helping me achieve my goals to get into the IT industry.
