I have passed my first 2 TMA's and I am thoroughly enjoying taking this set of courses. I never thought that I would start off so well at the beginning. The courses that I have chosen are ones which I hope will help secure a future for myself and my family. Well about 2 months ago emails were about as far as my pc knowledge went, oh and playing games. Now when I get all the error and warning messages on my pc I actually understand what they are and dont just click ok and carry on. I am happy man, becouse I passed my A+ Exams last week. It was very hard time for me, I have a 10 hours a day job and all other commitments. So a big thanks to you people in SkillsTrain, without you I won't have done this. I had a basic knowledge of computers and how they work since I was 18 at college, however since starting this course it has vastly improved my knowledge and experience to enable my to help my friends and family with their pc problems. I have even been able to build my uncle a pc desktop. Also recently I have had just had an operation therefore been able to study harder and improve my results. Although this isn't an achievement in passing an exam as I have a long way to go for that, this is an achievement for me, in studying the course material. I have been working for a Learndirect centre for a while now and am now able to support my students that are undertaking PC technical courses! We have never been able to do them before but once I told my employer they started advertising them and I am now the "professional" in that area! I started working on the A+ 2003 Objectives. I then heard that these Objectives were going to be extended till end of June. So it was in May when I rang the administration to explain to me about this because I thought it was too late for me to take the exam before the deadline. So one office lady went at length to explain and encourage me to study really hard so that I can take my exam in June. I was left with about six Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs) to finish this course and I thought to myself if I could manage it. It was unimaginable since I wanted to leave some other time to revise all my work before I attempt to sit any exams. I tried to budget my time for the one month which was left and some other course I was doing. It was a really really a huge task. But I thank that office lady from SkillsTrain who gave me hope. Wow! just completed TMA 11 on Installing and uninstalling hardware etc and it has been helpful to me and to a lady I helped over the internet with her Ipod. She was having trouble, the computer was not recognising Ipod so I went through the steps with her that I've learnt in unit 11 and presto, Ipod installed + working very happy lady. I was a soldier, but was shot. I had to leave the army and life took a downward turn. I went to prison for 2 years. I brought up my son on my own from 2, he's now 11. I suffered a back injury 4 years ago had to stop work, but now I have decided to better my self by doing this course to provide for my son. It is amazing what the course with Skills Train can do! I have searched for computer based job since I set foot in the UK. First of all I would like to thank the Tutor team and skills train for helping me with my studies. As maybe you can see/notice that for the past months my entrance to the student world and assignment completion have been rare because of the circumstances beyond my control. My grandad passed away in January after being sick for some time. I was very low at the time as I couldn't go home and at the same time my mother was diagnosed with heart problems. This really put pressure on me financially and hard to make ends meet. During this time I couldn't focus on my studies always on the phone to my relatives making sure my mum was doing well in hospital(Zimbabwe) doctors were on strike. It was very hard to keep calm and put my mind to anything I tried to read from course material. Again, with the help of tutors after having problems with Live Lab I managed to start with loggin in to live lab and practice trying to keep myself strong and to try and forget about the problems. It was a big mountain to climb on my own and took a lot from me. My mum is still in hospital but doing a bit better. Before starting my course with Skillstrain I had always dreamed to become an IT Engineer in the future, so when I start MCSE course with skillstrain at the beginning I found it a bit far to reach my goal, but after completing my A+, N+ I thought I had found the goal I was looking for. I was working in Coopervision as a Production Operator, very recently they had a vacancy for general admin assistant, I thought let's try my luck here. Having been 25yrs since I last study, I found it difficult at the start to take in information and remember it for any length of time.I have now began to understand and remember more of what I am learning (hopefully enough) and have not been temped (yet anyway)to look back on my notes when completing assignments I have personally been surprised at my progress and hope to continue to surpass my expectations.
